Topical Tuesday #21 Social Network Sites

This week's topic is Social Network Sites - Since their introduction, social network sites (SNSs) such as MySpace, Facebook, Cyworld, and Bebo have attracted millions of users, many of whom have integrated these sites into their daily practices. As of this writing, there are hundreds of SNSs, with various technological affordances, supporting a wide range of interests and practices. While their key technological features are fairly consistent, the cultures that emerge around SNSs are varied. Most sites support the maintenance of pre-existing social networks, but others help strangers connect based on shared interests, political views, or activities. Some sites cater to diverse audiences, while others attract people based on common language or shared racial, sexual, religious, or nationality-based identities. Sites also vary in the extent to which they incorporate new information and communication tools, such as mobile connectivity, blogging, and photo/video-sharing. (via)

Big news at the moment still, and subject to a great deal of discussion - both pro and anti. Whats your opinion?

Topical Tuesday #20 Do you take food with you on a foreign holiday?

This week's topic is Do you take food with you on a foreign holiday? - Recently in UK media there have been reports that a large amount of tourists take not only tea bags and coffee but bacon, sausages and other food with them when they go abroad on holiday. And then when on holiday they seek out places to eat that sell the food they are used to in favour of local produce.

When you go on holiday to a foreign country do you like to immerse yourself completely in their culture and eat their food or can you not bare the thought of having to eat the food and take your favourite food with you?

But what is your take on the paid blogger or those who blog for cash (pay per post bloggers for example)?

Topical Tuesday #17 The Time To Tell Them

This week's topic is The Time To Tell Them - I struggled a lot coming up a concise title for this week’s topic but I think this will cover it. This week’s topic is twofold.

You are invited to write a blog entry, a letter or even a poem (if that’s your thing) to someone. This someone could be someone you know very well or it could be a stranger you met briefly but who had a great impact on you. It could be to your partner, your parents or your high school teacher who believed in you. It could even be to someone you have never met before but whose actions you read or heard about and changed the way you see something. Your post should be about how they affected you and how one thing (maybe even more than one thing) they did, big or small, gave you strength, inspired you or changed your life. Tell them how you feel and how much they mean to you. It doesn’t matter if you have told them before, do it again.

Once you are done, try to find them and tell them. If you don’t feel comfortable telling them in person hand them the letter or send them the link to your post. You can even send them the letter anonymously.

We hope you enjoy this week’s Topical Tuesday. Remember to come back next week or subscribe to our RSS feed to be notified automatically when the next topic is up. As always, make sure you leave a comment under this topic to let us and everybody else participating know that your entry has been posted and remember to link back so that more people find out.
